Are We Willing?

Am I truly willing to lay aside everything for Jesus?  That is the tough question I have been asking myself for the last few weeks.  Of course as a “Christian” it is very tempting to blurt out an impulsive “Yes”.  But are we really?  Are we really willing to die for the cause of Christ?  Are we really willing to sell everything we have and move to a third world country to bring hope to the hopeless?  Are we willing to help someone knowing that they will never say thank you?  Are we willing to miss a meal so that someone else can eat?  Are we really willing to call injustice by it’s name, knowing that persecution may come your way?

Matthew 13:44 says this:  “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.  When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”

God gave His son, He gave us His most prized possession because He is in love with us.  That is not a cliche…it is true.  He did not have to do it…God could have simply destroyed us and said, “forget it”.   However He did not, and in response to this love shouldn’t we want to sell out to Christ?  Shouldn’t we be willing to swim upstream for Him?

1 John 3:16-18 says this:  “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.  If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?  Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”

So, Am I willing?  Are you willing?
